Question by Vulcan Windsurfer: How much does smoking affect libido/sexual performance?
I’ve heard cigarettes are a real libido killer. But obviously, plenty of people who smoke are having plenty of sex.

Can someone explain this? I smoke 10-15 cigarettes a day. What would I notice in that area if I quit or drastically cut down?

*I realize quitting smoking would be a huge health benefit in many ways, and am working toward it. I’m not demanding justification for quitting smoking, just curious how much it really affects libido.

As far as I know, it has the opposite effect, since it’s a stimulant and increases testosterone levels. My own experience as a former smoker would seem to support that — my libido went down rather than up when I quit. But over many years, smoking can contribute to impotence by damaging the circulatory system.

Kills it. Or at least, something did.

My g/f had a baby and had the mirena inserted about 1 year ago. We have had sex, oh, about 7 times since.

Did I mention my wrist hurts?

Medically, caffeine is useful as a cardiac stimulant and also as a mild diuretic (it increases urine production). Recreationally, it is used to provide a “boost of energy” or a feeling of heightened alertness.

In short caffeine blocks adenosine reception so you feel alert. It injects adrenaline into the system to give you a boost. And it manipulates dopamine production to make you feel good.

Taking the above in consideration you may say that caffeine can have a positive effect on the male sex drive.

I never heard you can last longer on caffeine. If you want to last longer take a 30 sec break every time you start to reach your peak.

Not directly, unless you at the extreme either way. In most cases it becomes a matter of self image. A psychological problem rather than a physical one. In a few cases the underlying cause for being extremely overweight or under weight can have complicating physical factors that may contribute to a decreased sex drive. With no complicating factors, being only a bit over or underweight should not affect male sex drive.

Sexual problems in women with diabetes
The sex problems experienced by some women with diabetes are the same problems that may be experienced by women without diabetes, namely:

* lack of vaginal lubrication;
* painful intercourse; and
* loss of desire — reduced libido.

Just like other women, some women with diabetes may suffer problems with orgasm, but some research shows that if you have diabetes you are no more likely to have these problems than women who don’t have diabetes. If you are having sexual problems that may or may not be related to your diabetes, see your doctor — there may be some simple things you can do to improve the situation.

FOr the past several years I’ve been on perscribed Adderall XR. I’ve found that it is near Impossible to “get it up” while the adderall is in your system. In fact, It’s as if there’s very little blood flowing through “down there” when the medication is in my system. I was wondering why and how this works and if there’s any way to couteract this effect, because it’s quite a neiusance at times.

You need to talk to your doctor about this. There are other medications that work and not have this side effect.

Birth control pills won’t affect age at menopause because menopause is more determined by overall age of the ovaries, not how much or how little the ovaries have been used. There is some heredity involved, but there are a lot of environmental factors, too, and that will have a huge effect, possibly more than heredity.

I don’t think so, but it could. Of course stressing about it could decrease sex drive.
