Question by djr: How long after taking prozac does it take to get my sex drive back?
I am only 22 years old and have lost a significant amount of my sex drive. I was on prozac 11 months. Some sources on the internet say anti depressants may cause permanent erectile dysfunction. I wanted to hear from other guys who have possibly experienced this.

I never had this problem. Talk to your doctor. Maybe he can give you something that can help you get your sex drive.

I’ve heard two completely opposite things. I’ve heard that she loses her libido because of the hormonal changes. But I’ve also heard that once the risk of pregnancy is gone, her libido actually increases because she can enjoy herself without the constant worry of an unplanned pregnancy. Does anyone know? Or is it different for different women?

(I’m reposting this in “Senior Citizens” with the hopes some of you experienced ladies can help me out! Thanks!)

…My Physician told me that 50%of women lose interest completely. And he was correct.In talking to other women,that is what they have said.

I had a ovary removed due to cysts and now I Have no sex drive. When I first had the surgery my sex drive sky-rocketed and now I could care less if I ever had sex again. Is this normal?

estrogen and some other hormones are screted by ovaries. Most probaby after removal it took sometime for your body to find a new balance.This side effect might be quite common in this kind of operation. If you’re unhappy with it you may speak to your doctor and have a HRT therapy. Or try chinese herbal medicine, if you find a good practitioner it’s a safer option.

Because my husband has quit drinking alcohol and says he has no sex drive now. It really bothers me and i do question the reason but am unsure. I have never had a alcohol problem so i would not fully understand side effects any answers would help! Thank you..

My boyfriend was on prozac and other similar medications for a period of about 3 months, then got weaned off all of them by the suggestion of a doctor. It’s been about 3 weeks since he got off of them, and his sex drive is finally beginning to come back a little. The lack of that bond and chemistry is straining our relationship….when can we expect any remaining effects of the lowered sex drive to clear up for good, or is this just in our heads now?

It depends on the individual since prozac doesn’t affect the sex drive of every one who takes it. Sex drive is primarily dependent on testosterone but there are some mental and/or emotional effects involved too. Don’t blame it all on the prozac but give it a little more time until his body gets back to normal.The prozac might be out of his blood stream by now but his body will take time to revert back to a normal state.

I currently have a Mirena and am going to have it removed. After 4 years of having low/no libido I’m calling it quits. I’m going to ask my GYN which pill could help increase my libido. I figure maybe I run low on hormones to begin with – I don’t think it’s the IUD’s fault necessarily. I might have my hormone levels checked and then go on the appropriate pill. You should have your hormone levels checked – you might be low on hormones.
