What vegetables are best for training and fighting estrogen build-up?07.24.10

Question by Aaron: What vegetables are best for training and fighting estrogen build-up?
I hear that Brocolli is the best because it contains Indole 3 carbinol for its estrogen modulating effect.

Does anyone have any more information on this and what other vegetables are recomended to be eaten if youre into weight-training and cardio nearly every day. Thanks in advance for any answers.

Q&A: I need some help. My best friend is in perimenopause and hasn’t had a period since the beginning of December?07.21.10

Question by bt71: I need some help. My best friend is in perimenopause and hasn’t had a period since the beginning of December?
She says she ovulated around the 26th of Jan and had sex on the 28th…now she is experiencing very light intermittent bleeding and her breasts are swollen. She also says she is extremely fatigued. She thinks she may be pregnant. I told her to take a pregnancy test but I was intrigued by all the combination of symptoms and thought I would get some feedback. I just think it’s menopause…any thoughts?
she is 47 sorry about omitting age!

What is the best way to cope with anxiety if you are going through perimenopause, and will remifemin help?07.20.10

Question by monica4rd: What is the best way to cope with anxiety if you are going through perimenopause, and will remifemin help?

As we age, our estrogen levels drop 40 to 60% of what they once were. However, progesterone levels drop to zero! Having a higher level of estrogen than progesterone is called Estrogen Dominance.

Estrogen dominance is likely the source of your anxiety and depression. If you take remifemin, you will be adding MORE estrogen, probably making your anxiety worse. Only about 3% of women walking on this earth need estrogen replacement!

Look into natural progesterone. It’s the body’s own “anti-estrogen” and will balance out the excess estrogen!
Read “What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Premenopause” by Dr. John Lee.

Remifemin contains black cohosh, which has been shown to cause liver damage, and to promote (not cause) cancer growth.

What is the best way to increase estrogen levels in my body without taking birth control?07.14.10

Question by College girl: What is the best way to increase estrogen levels in my body without taking birth control?
I am a college student who loves to run. I usually run 4-6 miles 6 days a week, and am 5′5 at 112 lbs. I also dont eat a lot of meat. I haven’t gotten my period for almost 2 years and realize that I must do so to reduce my risk for developing osteoperosis in the future. My doctor recommended birth control, but I really do not want to take it for several reasons, one being the side affects that result from pumping my body full of hormones. Is there another way to increase my estrogen levels and start menstruating again? I think if I try to gain about 5 lbs that should start things flowing again, but that’s easier said than done considering I eat a lot now (I have to walk a lot plus the running). Are there any other suggestions for me, or any tips to help me “thicken” up without “jelling up”? Thanks!

There are naturally occuring estrogens in some foods (like soy and others), and then there are certain supplements derived from foods that increase estrogen. Someone at a health food store could point you in the right direction for both of these.
You can also ask them about what foods have a high caloric level to try and increase your weight. A nutritionist could be something to consider as well.

when is the best time of month to test if perimenopause?07.11.10

Question by Pam: when is the best time of month to test if perimenopause?
I am only in my early 40s but I am showing signs of perimenopause. I am wondering when is the best time of the month to test my hormone levels? Also is it even worth the trouble? I will be going to my regular doctor to also check that it is not something completely different going on.

Answer by Jessemar
i don’t know about the right time to test, but i am going thru perimenopause and i was told that testing for hormone levels doesn’t usually show any difference. doctors apparently go by your symptoms, not by blood work. everyone is different so a drop or raise in hormone levels in some women will cause no symptoms, whereas others with normal levels will have hot flashes, night sweats, etc. hopefully you’ve got a good doctor who will be able to help find an answer for you.

What do you think? Answer below!
