Im currently on Loestrine 24 Fe. Is there anyone who has had this happen and found a better alternative, that didnt effect their sexdrive?

Wickman: We have found a definite connection between hormonal contraception and sexual dysfunction. In fact, we have been doing a research study on this issue over the past year. Specifically, this issue affects a small subgroup of birth control pill users; we estimate between 5% and 10%, so not everyone is going to have this problem.

We think the mechanism involved is an increase in a certain protein that binds the sexual hormones, like testosterone and estrogen. We have found that taking oral birth control pills causes an increase in this binding protein. We have also found that stopping birth control pills causes this protein to decrease back to normal. So we feel that oral contraceptive pills are the cause of sexual dysfunction in a small subgroup of women, and some of the other methods available may be a good answer, though the research is ongoing for this.

Hormonal birth control can affect a woman’s emotions either positively or negatively. In some cases women are prescribed birth control pills to decrease symptoms of PMS, and this can be effective. However, especially in this subgroup that has a negative sexual effect, this, in turn, affects the emotions and leads to a downhill spiral with respect to relationship issues. By suppressing the body’s own estrogen levels, this can affect a woman’s mood and can possibly worsen underlying depression. So the effect on mood is very individualized.

You could possibly try Camilla, which is relatively low in hormonal effects, as it contains no estrogen. If you’re a tiny bit more risky, you could try a diaphragm and if your BF will go for it, condoms are 98% effective when used correctly.

Personally, I believe that intimacy or foreplay help raise libido. Find something special that only you and your boyfriend/fiance have. Or try new positions. There are plenty of websites out there that give suggestions to new ways to spice up old things. Try out a shower with your man maybe?

One common problem that happens is this. I have been there and done that. You have to figure out what it is first that is destroying her sex drive. If shes on medication like birth control or anti-depressants that is something to think about and do research on. Other then that it could just be stress, maybe the kids, really anything that makes your life stressful can do this and lower the libido.

One thing I tried that seemed to work while I was doing it was exercising. I just felt sexier doing it which kind of boosted my libido. However it wasn’t the best solution for me. My friend told me about these herbal enhancers that are made from natural herbs and don’t cause any side effects besides having wild sex. She said it’s the female version of viagra that you should suggest to her. I had to find out.

Birth control pills won’t affect age at menopause because menopause is more determined by overall age of the ovaries, not how much or how little the ovaries have been used. There is some heredity involved, but there are a lot of environmental factors, too, and that will have a huge effect, possibly more than heredity.
