Any suggestions for getting pregnant if I’m in Perimenopause?10.29.11

Question by Linda S: Any suggestions for getting pregnant if I’m in Perimenopause?
I’m 43 & have never had a problem conceiving when we wanted children in the past. I always got pregnant within a couple of months of trying. My husband & I would like one last child, but my Dr. says I am in Perimenopause, & it will be very difficult, if not impossible, to become pregnant. We have been trying for about 10 months now..even tried Clomid, the fertility drug, for 2 months. Anyone out there have any suggestions for getting pregnant during this phase of life? My 3 children were all born while I was in my mid to late 30′s & early 40′s. We’d love to have one more baby.

I read that 43 is the age when it becomes almost impossible to get PG for any woman… that said, it does still happen! If I were you I would try IVF, it will probably be your best hope. You should have an ultrasound to see how many follicles you have left. Would you be willing to use an egg donor if need be?

What are the chances of getting cancer again after taking estrogen because of menopause?10.27.11

Question by cute: What are the chances of getting cancer again after taking estrogen because of menopause?
Because if I do have cancer I don’t want to feel the symptoms of menopause. Will all doctors refuse to give you estrogen after having cancer?

Research over the last 5-10 years shows a direct correlation between Hormonal replacement therapy and cancer. For this reason, you need to have a very detailed discussion with your physician. Death by cancer is not a pleasant experience.

Is getting dry during sex with my husband another sign of perimenopause?10.03.11

Question by justlookin4friendsonly: Is getting dry during sex with my husband another sign of perimenopause?
I’ve had other signs of perimenopause, I’m 36, he’s 41. It got SOOO painful it hurt him, then me! I need to go to my midwife soon. I’ve also been experiencing symptoms of pregnancy.
Is there ANYTHING my midwife can prescribe for the dryness?

It’s affecting my relationship, we hardly have sex anymore & my husband said he’s losing interest & I feel guilty, though I know I can’t control it, I know it’s affecting both of us.

I would definitely approach your midwife about the possibility of pregnancy. I don’t think that getting dry is a sign of menopause. I mean, there are teenagers out there that get dry all the time. There are also MANY women of the ages 18-45 that get dry while having sex. I would suggest some lube or something to help with the dryness. I hope that helps you out.
